What is it about?

EC3303 is an extension of EC2303, covering mainly topics such as Linear Regression, Multiple Regression.

Students are assessed through Participation, Homework, Mid Term, and Final. For Participation, it is break down to lecture participation (6%) and tutorial participation (10%). For lecture participation, you do not have to be physically present to attain the full 6%. You just need a friend to send you the QSMS code and answer the question. Your answer need not be right to attain the 6%. For tutorial participation, one is awarded 1% for each attendance (5 lessons in total) and 1% for presenting or making an enquiry in each class. There are 2 Homework in total and they are both group-work. Mid term and Final are both SAQ and they are similar to the Homework questions. Mid term tests on the first six weeks of material and Final tests on the entire syllabus. Sadly, both mid term and final are closed-book and there are proving questions.

Review

Mr. Seah is a super engaging lecturer and he encourages students to participate. The Homework is generally do-able though you need to be able to operate STATA for it. One tip is that some of the Homework questions are repeated -- for instance, this year Homework could be the Homework for two semesters back.

This module is not really competitive. Alike EC2303, Economics students tend to give up on modules that are stats-related. I didn't perform well for Mid Term and I only started studying for Final a day before the exam. However, I managed to do a thorough revision from Week 1 all the way to Week 13 and luckily, there is a question tested on Week 4/5 materials which I was able to do. Note that the lecturer may advise you three different study plan —  1) study the whole syllabus 2) skip the first few chapters 3) focus on just the second half — the final does cover mainly the second half but  for my case, a good 15+% was tested on the content for week 4/5, so study the whole syllabus! Many other students ignore the first six weeks and they weren't able to do the question.

All in all, EC3303 is an engaging module. The workload is moderate (maybe more inclined to light) as there aren't much content taught. There are just some key points you have to note for each lecture and honestly, the latter six weeks are much easier for me as compared to the first six weeks because I hate proving. In addition, he rewards attendance and participation which can help to boost your grade by a bit. As what some other reviews state, EC3303 is one of the level 3000 modules that you can still aim an A for so do go for it!
