What is it about?

EC1101E is an Economics Introductory module, covering six weeks worth of micro-economics' content
and six weeks worth of macro-economics' content.

Students are assessed through Pre-Lecture quizzes, Post-Lecture quizzes, Tutorials, Mid-terms and Finals. For the Pre-Lecture quizzes, it test on concepts demonstrated in the pre-lecture videos. As for  Post-Lecture Quizzes, concepts taught in lecture are tested. Each quiz can be attempted thrice, so full marks is highly attainable. Tutorials are held weekly, and are taught by student TAs. Mid-terms is a one-hour, closed-book paper with 36 MCQs and it is a mad rush. Some questions require a lot of visualisation (through graph) and they are generally tricky. For the finals, it is a two-hour, closed-book paper with a total of 72 MCQs. It covers mainly macro-economic concepts and they are really difficult.

Review

EC1101E is a competitive module. Most students have H2 Economics as background so taking EC1101E without prior knowledge will set one at a disadvantage. Microeconomics concepts taught generally overlap with H2 Economics, but the Macroeconomics concepts taught is vastly different from what is taught in H2 Economics.

For new Year 1, do not be under the impression that Economics in University is just like Economics in JC. Economics in University place a strong emphasis on Mathematics and a strong foundation in Mathematics will make your journey as an Economics major smoother.

All in all, EC1101E is a competitive module. Time and effort is required to score that A.
